Sessions

  • Family Hike is open to all ages and gives our members a chance to connect with each other. The group will decide at the session which trail to hike and we generally encourage the group to stay together, though it is not necessary. Families with older children may want to move faster than those with younger ones. We will usually end this session with a shared snack.

  • Nature Crafts is our time to get creative. We start the session with free play, then sit at picnic tables for a craft and story. This session is most appropriate for preschool and elementary age children.

  • Forest Friends is a child-led session, with a focus on learning through play. We will hike a path, explore the varied terrains, sing songs, and have story time. It is age-appropriate for toddlers, preschoolers, and elementary aged children.

  • Tiny Explorers is catered especially for our youngest members: babies and toddlers up to age 3. Older siblings are welcome to join. The session is slowly paced to allow for new walkers and crawlers and the focus is on exploration.

  • We will be joining the Tulsa Garden Club at Woodward Park for a monthly activity. After the provided activities, we will have free play and a picnic lunch. Please remind your children to always respect the gardens and that we follow the Leave No Trace philosophy.

  • Nature Navigators is a hiking and learning session that includes some element of outdoor or survival skills. This could be anything from learning to use a compass, learning wild native edible plants, to building a lean-to shelter. This session is great for school aged kids all the way through high school and is held in the later afternoon. We usually have a snack time in the middle of the session and enjoy sharing food family-style.

  • Science After School is an afternoon meet up for school aged kids. After some play time, we will take a short walk into the woods to observe the environment. Voluntary nature journals will be provided.

  • STEM Adventures is a fun learning experience. This session is appropriate for school aged children. We will usually begin the session at the outdoor classroom, then together as a group we will choose a trail to hike.

  • Bushcraft Kiddos is a session focused on younger kids learning skills for thriving in a natural environment. It is most appropriate for early elementary aged children. This is not a hiking session, rather we prefer to focus on skill-building and learning through play.

  • The Tinder Years sessions are geared toward toddler and preschool aged kids, though all ages are welcome. This is generally a slower paced walk focused on encouraging kids to explore, discover, and interact with each other. We take a break about midway through our walk, where we can have snacks, read stories, and/ or do activities related to the theme of the month.

  • Wandering Whimsy is a morning meetup for younger children. This session will be focused on finding the whimsical wonders that nature has to offer us when we slow down and explore. With this session we will do a fun hands on activity, hike, and explore with a short break midway for snacks and a story.
